Mecca to Medina:

100 Personal Reflections on Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ Hijrah Journey

Husain Abdullah, along with 5 others walked a historic migration route through the Arabian desert. It's called the "Hijrah" of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Upon Him).

In the year 623 AD, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ migrated with a small group of believers from Mecca to Medina. The journey was so momentous, the Islamic calendar begins with this journey and world history forever changed.

The Hijrah laid the foundations for the Golden Age of Islam.

There are, maybe, less than 100 people living that have traversed this journey as of today. Although, more people will seek the spiritual transformation that accompanies this path as it becomes more accessible in the near future Insha'Allah (God willing).

Throughout this journey, Husain Abdullah reflects on various Ayats (verses/signs) from the Qur'an and the Hadith (sayings and teachings of the Prophet). Abdullah ties his reflections to everyday life, his personal experiences of being a Black Muslim man in America, and the challenges he's faced.

This book seeks to take the complex and simplify it, while delving deep into spirituality, life, death and life's purpose.

About Husain Abdullah

Husain Abdullah was born in Los Angeles, California, July 27, 1985. Born to convert parents, Muhammad Abdullah and Sa'eeda Johnwell, Husain and his siblings grew up studying and practicing Islam inside the house while learning survival as a Black African American outside the house. After a divorce and remarriage, Husain and his siblings were raised in Pomona, California by Sa'eeda and Yusuf Johnwell.

Yusuf Johnwell instilled Islamic values and principles into his children through hard work and sports. Husain Abdullah took the teachings of Yusuf and went on to excel in sports in High School, College and the National Football League. Recognized by his peers and coaches for his quiet and focused leadership, Husain was named "Captain" of his football team at every level of sport.

During his seven year NFL career (Minnesota Vikings/Kansas City Chiefs), Husain used his status and platform to influence thought on Ethics, Leadership, Social Justice, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, and he educated worldwide audiences on Islam. NFL Films, ABC, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Players Tribune, and more have documented his life’s journey and shared his young wisdom with the world.

Husain Abdullah was the catalyst for the loudest recorded roar (142.2 decibels) in outdoor sports history, on September 29, 2014 at Arrowhead Stadium, when he intercepted Tom Brady of the New England Patriots and returned the ball 39 yards for a touchdown. Husain's post touchdown Sajdah (prostration) in the end zone sparked controversy and discourse around the world on athletes worshiping God.

Carrying a Bachelors in Sociology from Washington State University and a Masters in Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management from Southern Methodist University, Husain uses his education to leave a positive mark on society.

Husain is a serial entrepreneur, keynote speaker, executive coach, and mentor to many. With his first book, Mecca to Medina: 100 Personal Reflections on Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ Hijrah Journey, Husain is now an Author as well.
